Tastings and Events

Welcome to the Drinkmonger Events page.

Our Drinkmonger stores have a fantastic array of wine, champagne, port, sherry, beer and spirits. It is one of our many sources of pride that we stock such a broad range of wine varietals as well as a jaw dropping choice of beers from across the world. Obviously there’s an extensive selection of whiskies available, but there’s also a plethora of all other spirits to tickle your tastebuds; from absinthe to vodka, along with ever increasing numbers of gins, rums, tequilas and cognacs amongst others.

Whilst our customers are often in the know about what they want, we feel that there is always something new to learn. The best way to learn (or at least the most enjoyable) is to try and so with this in mind we host a selection of varied and informal tastings.

FORTHCOMING WINE TASTINGS

Why is everyone so confused about Chardonnay?
Friday 14th October 8:00pm at Drinkmonger, Edinburgh. Tickets £15.
So, alongside Riesling (the only other white grape variety which you could argue consistently produces so many of the world’s greatest wines) Chardonnay gets both the highest of praise and the most unreasonably bad press. And you know what? It is WONDERFUL! A beautiful gift from the vinous gods, and one of the greatest things about it is it’s potential for expressing the unique identity of wildly differing growing conditions and environments. Not sure about Chardonnay? We think we can help!

PLEASE NOTE: THIS TASTING WILL INCLUDE WHITE WINES ONLY

Champagne Lallier
Thursday 27th October 8:00pm at Drinkmonger, Edinburgh. Tickets £15.
We’re extremely happy to be able to introduce Thibault Marronnier of Champagne Lallier who will present a range of wonderful Champagnes from this dynamic young house. Lallier are independently owned, and combine respect for tradition and the importance of the vineyard, with an innovative approach to production. They are quite simply some of the best value and most interesting Champagnes we’ve come across. . If we‘re extremely lucky, we may even be able to persuade Thibault to take us outside and open a few bottle the old-fashioned way (with a sword!).

We’ll be tasting elegant Syrah & Viognier driven wines of the North, and demonstrating the complex interplay of grape variety and site in the multi-varietal red and white blends of the South.
