This wine tells the story of a very small old vineyard in Darling, in the Western Cape with lots of potential but that needed a bit of work. Attacked by birds, and once by sheep, nature could tell that these were good grapes, so good they wanted to eat them! After a good bit of work, a strong net, and a bigger fence, they got a harvest from this vineyard, and made a wine that is more restrained than its new world counterparts. Hints of perfume, rather than big fruit. Refined and complex, with a natural feel. Blank Bottle wines are becoming pretty sought after, not just for the stories around the wines, but for the fact they are excellent wines. Pieter works with farmers across the Western Cape, selecting the best grapes from farmers he has built good relationships with, to make fascinating wines.
