Bodegas Frontonio Botijo Rojo 2021

Ripe, bright and elegant, with notes of fresh red cherries and a hint of cassis, underpinned by a slight volatile herbaceous quality. A light body and a fresh acidity on the finish beautifully balance the primary fruit character, and subtle tannins provide just enough structure - a wine of beautiful simplicity, ideal for a summer day's sipping.

Based out of a 200 year old house built over a three storey cellar/cave system, in Alpartir, southwest of Zaragoza in Spain, Winemaker Fernando Mora MW and Viticulturalist Mario Lopez make Bodegas Frontonio's outstanding wines. Their winemaking philosophy is one of minimal intervention, but constant awareness, paying close attention to the soil, grapes and wine at every step of the process.

This wine is made from 100% Garnacha from a single estate in IGP Valdejalon in Aragon. The vines, aging from 20 to 50 years, are planted in alluvial clay & limestone soils on a northeast-facing slope at 450 m above sea level. Here, the vines are kept cool and conditions arid by the prevailing Cierzo wind which blows through the mountains of northern Spain.

The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified simply - in a garage, the winemakers would add - before ageing the wine in concrete tanks in the winery's cellar for over 9 months prior to bottling.
