Broc Cellars Old Vine Carignan 2016 75cl
In a small vineyard in California's Alexander valley there lives some of the world's oldest Carignan vines. At a mere 130 years old these vines are able to survive due to the decomposed sandy soil they live in, which makes it impossible for pesky phylloxera to survive. These ancient vines produce very little fruit but what they do produce is super concentrated in flavour and structure allowing for intense flavours to shine. Chris Brockway believes carbonic maceration is the most transparent method to show off these flavours.
