Champagne A. Levasseur Blanc de Terroir Extra Brut 2014

Elegant and complex, with a honeyed florality on the nose and tart stonefruit and green apple on the palate which gives was to the beginnings of a nutty oxidative character and a slightly bready finish. 

Established by Albert Levasseur in the 1940s, Champagne A. Levasseur produces exceptional and distinctive Champagnes from only 4 ha of vineyards in the Marne Valley. The house's current operator, Albert's grandson David Levasseur, has a particular focus on organic viticulture and the expression of terroir in his wines, and this wine is an especially good example.

This Blanc de Bancs Champagne is made exclusively from Chardonnay grown in the village of Cuchery in 2013. The majority of the fruit came from two vines planted in 2003 and 2007 which are pruned in the 'Taille Chablis' method, as is traditional for Chardonnay in Champagne. This method results in concentrated and ripe fruit in relatively cool climates.

As with many of Levasseur's wines, the Chardonnay base wine was vinified in stainless steel vessels to preserve freshness and terroir character. This wine then underwent secondary fermentation in bottle before disgorgement and topping up with a dosage of 4g/L.

"Blanc de Terroir“ offers a great finesse, combined with notes of plums, acacia honey and elderberry flower. It’s an intense wine, full-bodied in the palate, balanced by fresh notes with the tastes of nut, fresh almonds, pear, white peaches and toasted bread. Mature, gourmet and persistent, it’s a harmonious and complex champagne!
