Champagne Rémi Leroy Les Crots Saignee Rose Extra Brut 2018

A rich and tangy dark rosé with juicy and earthy notes of sour cherries, brambles and stems, all framed by a slight grippiness and a racy acidity.

An Oenologist and agricultural engineer by training, Rémi Leroy, produces excellent terroir-focussed Champagnes from his 9 ha family estate in Meurville, Côte des Bar. The estate's vines, predominantly Pinot Noir, have an average age of 23 years and sit in mainly clay-limestone soils.

This Rosé de Saignée is made from 100% Pinot Noir from the 2018 harvest of vines planted in 2007 on a southeast-facing slope with clay soils. The grapes were destemmed then macerated n skins for 72 hours to extract a deeper colour and phenols. The must was then pressed to old oak barrels for fermentation and ageing on lees, with regular battonage. The wine was bottled for secondary fermentation without any fining or filtration. It was disgorged in March 2022 and topped up with a dosage of 1 g/L.

Official Tasting Notes
Notes of morello cherry, blackcurrant, blackcurrant bud, as well as liquorice on the nose. Mouth-wateringly powerful, vinous and fresh. Long finish with an assertive tannic texture.
