Bodegas Frontonio Garnacha La Cerqueta 2020

Fresh and light, while retaining weight and an assertive structural quality. Vibrant herbaceous florality on the nose is followed by ripe citrus and cherry character on the palate, framed by a driven acidity and robust, powdery tannins.

Bodegas Frontonio has established an impressive reputation as one of the most captivating contemporary wineries in Spain. Led by Fernando Mora MW and Mario López, the winery has garnered high praise from renowned individuals such as Jancis Robinson MW and Luis Guitiérrez of Wine Advocate. Notably, they have achieved this acclaim while operating in the modest Valdejalón IGP appellation in Aragón.

Frontonio's exceptional Grand Cru selection, or 'V3' as they are designated on the label, is crafted from grapes harvested from their oldest vines. These vines, aged between 45 and 75 years for Macabeo and Garnacha respectively, and reaching up to 120 years at their prized vineyard 'El Jardin de las Iguales', contribute to the creation of these remarkable wines.

This wine is made from 100% Garnacha from La Cerqueta, a single 75+ year old vineyard in Alpartir, southwest of Zaragoza. The vines are planted in blue and grey slate soils on a north-facing slope at 630m above sea level.

The fruit was picked by hand and foot-stomped in cement vats daily, over the course of a 60 day period of fermentation by indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for 14 months in foudre prior to bottling.

This exceptional wine is limited to 2,304 bottles worldwide.

Official Tasting Notes
Pale amaranth red. Buddha's hand fruit, lilac flower, thyme and lavender. Very fresh. Sumptuous texture of liquid chalk with firm and noble tannins. Long and deep, as well as light and soft.
