Krohn Ruby Port

Wiese & Krohn’s estate Quinta do Retiro Novo is located in Sarzedinho, a very small village in the Rio Torto valley. Established in 1865, their long tradition of winemaking and careful site-selection results in rich and vibrant wines of excellent quality.

This rich and smooth ruby port is made from a combination of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa and Tinta Barroca grapes all grown in the Douro region of Portugal and then matured for 3 years in large, old oak vats. This rounds and softens the wine and provides it with a hint of spice and cedar at the end of the palate, giving even more complexity. Like most Ruby Ports, Krohn’s should be consumed young to preserve its vibrant and fresh fruity character.

Food Pairing
Serve after a meal as a digestif with hard cheeses, chestnuts, cashews and hazelnuts. Works as a perfect accompaniment to berries, summer pudding and chocolate too!

Official Tasting Notes
Krohn's 'entry level' is in a different category to most Ruby Ports - mature and versatile with a deep red colour and a concentration of fresh, plummy fruit aromas plus hints of spice. The palate has plenty of lively cherry and curranty black fruit - rich and full with a soft finish.
