Loch Lomond distillery is quite an unusual distillery in Scotland. They produce their own malt whisky and their own grain whisky, meaning they have all the ingredients to make their own blended whisky in house. Additionally, they have their own cooperage, so they can repair, char and create the barrels they require for ageing. Everything under one roof! Grain whisky is generally made up of malted barley, corn and wheat, and is distilled to a higher strength than malt whisky, bringing out more zesty notes, grainy notes, and a lighter body than a malt whisky. If you ever want to make your own blend at home, it is useful to have a bottle of grain whisky in the cupboard, and this is quite a tasty one for drinking neat, in a cocktail, or for those home blending experiments.
