Michel Ampeau of Domaine Robert Ampeau et Fils is now retired, with over 35 vintages under his belt. For the past decades, however, Michel has maintained a policy of releasing his wines only when they are mature. As a result, the domaine boasts one of the most extensive collections of back-vintages in the region.

For us at Drinkmonger, this means that we are fortunate enough to be able to offer a selection of truly exceptional ready-to-drink Burgundies from this legendary domaine.

This Pinot Noir was grown in Premier Cru Clos du Roi in Beaune. The fruit was fully destemmed and fermented in open-topped cement vats with regular punching down, before 12 months of ageing in oak barrels (10% new).

1990 was one of the finest vintages of the century, with a long hot summer and august rains. As a result, yields were good throughout burgundy and the fruit showed an unusual intensity and ripeness. On the whole the vintage is characterised by fuller, more intense wines than is typical, particularly in the Côte de Beaune.
