Thistledown Gorgeous Grenache 2022

A stunningly good value Aussie Grenache in the 'Blue-collar Pinot Noir' style. Juicy yet elegant with notes of wild red berries, a subtle aromatic florality and a hint of spice, leading towards a dry and savoury finish - Very versatile for pairing with barbeques, pizza, burgers and more. Thistledown Wine Company, run by two masters of wine, Giles Cooke & Fergal Tynan, was set up to produce more elegant expressions of Grenache and Syrah. Drawing upon years of experience with both old and new world winemaking styles, Thistledown have managed to combine these two distinct ideologies into a winery which produces excellently balanced wines whilst still retaining their Australian character.

This wine consists very predominantly of Grenache (>95%) sourced from some of the finest sites across South Australia, with a small quantity of Mataro (AKA Mourvèdre or Monastrell) for additional structure and depth.

The fruit from each vineyard is vinified seperately. In each case, the grapes are pressed as whole bunches and fermented by wild yeasts native to their respective vineyards. After fermentation, 5% of the wine is aged in large format old French oak casks for 5 months before assemblage and bottling without fining or filtration.
