Valenciso is situated at the north-west limit of Rioja Alta in the small town of Ollauri, where the Atlantic has strong influence, blowing in the wind to cool the grapes on summer evenings, slowing ripening to enhance acidity & finesse. Valenciso has a few Graciano vines in Haro & Ollauri (Graciano comprises barely 2% plantings in La Rioja), & 2017 was an exceptional year for this variety - early frosts meant only a few bunches remained on the vines ready for a perfect, long slow ripening conditions in summer & autumn. 24 months in Russian oak is perfectly judged balance to the sweet balsamic, ripe dark fruit & mocha notes of this exceptional & rare wine.
