Ata Rangi Crimson Martinborough Pinot Noir 2019

Delightfully complex with tart berries, spice, tobacco and florality - A wonderful pairing for anything from spring lamb to ratatouille.

Inspired by the crimson blooms of the Pohutukawa tree, with a portion of the proceeds funding efforts to plant and protect these iconic trees across New Zealand.

This wine is made from Pinot Noir from 5-20 year old vines planted on alluvial loess over deep gravel on terraces in Martinborough. The fruit is picked by hand and mostly destemmed (10% whole bunches) before pre-fermentation maceration over 2-6 days. The must is fermented in open topped stainless steel vessels by yeasts cultivated from the vineyard, over the course of 3 weeks with hand-plunging throughout. The wine is aged in oak (20% new) for 12 months, with malolactic fermentation, prior to bottling.

Official Tasting Notes
Complex notes of rose petal, blood orange, sandalwood, tamarind and toasted rice are aromatically enticing, while the flavours of cranberry, cinnamon and bergamot tea align with the soft, savoury notes of tobacco on the palate. Well-structured, this is a beautifully food-friendly Pinot Noir.
