Azienda Agricola Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve 2017

Intense, yet approachable. Bursting with fresh, tart, dark fruit - wonderfully versatile for pairing with rich dishes.

100% Sangiovese from the finest of Fontodi's 90 hectares of vineyards in the Conca D'Oro - the heart of Chianti Classico. The vineyards are situated at 480 metres above sea level and the vines are planted on 'Galestro' schistous clay.

The grapes are hand-sorted before a 21-day period of maceration and fermentation in stainless steel tanks, with the cap punched down twice daily. The wine was aged in predominantly new French oak barriques for 18 months before blending and resting for a further 6 months in oak foudres prior to bottling.

Tomato based pasta dishes, creamy mushroom dishes poultry, game and hard cheeses.

Dark cherry, violet, plum, spice, racy acidity and supple tannins.

Official Tasting Notes
This Sangiovese is bright, ruby red in colour. On the nose, aromas of ripe dark cherries, violets and plums, complemented by a hint of spice. This wine has wonderful structure and the palate is typically rich and full complemented by racy acidity and characteristically fine, supple tannins. The finish is flavourful and persistent.
