Benjamin Leroux Gevrey Chambertin 2020

Lively, bright and juicy, with a heady florality that lifts a concentrated core of punchy dark fruit - A dream pairing for smoked duck or other rich game birds.

A superb cuvée consisting of excellent parcels of Pinot Noir from the villages of Les Seuvrées in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin, La Justice, En Champs and Champerrier in the the north, and some truly exceptional old-vine fruit from Les Jeunes Rois.

Each parcel was vinified seperately, then blended prior to bottling. 80% of the fruit was destemmed before pressing, and the must was wild-fermented by yeast native to the vineyards and winery, with pumping-over at the start of fermentation and punching-down towards the end. The wine was aged in a combination of 600L and 225L oak casks (20% new) and bottled with minimal fining and filtration.

“Five Star Wine. This cuvee is usually built around Les Seuvrées and La Justice, boosted from 2020 by the addition of Champerrier, Jeunes Rois and En Champs. Dark but fresh purple, lively fruit and roses, this wine is lovely with more of a heart than usual, more floral, in fact it dances through to the back. The addition of the Brochon end vineyards make this more floral, more juicy, less savoury.” -Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
