Bodegas Altolandon Mil Historias Malbec 2022

This Spanish malbec (a rarity in itself) is beautifully bold and vibrant with notes of juicy plum, bramble jam and an earthy hint of espresso - A great pairing for lamb dishes but this also stands up nicely to the aromatic spice of Taiwanese beef noodle soup.

This Malbec comes from 15 year old vines planted on a plateau at 1100 m above sea level in a biodynamically farmed vineyard with a north-south vine orientation.

The fruit is hand-harvested relatively late, around mid-october, and macerated for 2-3 weeks prior to fermentation at a controlled temperature in 6000L stainless steel tanks. The must is then allowed to ferment spontaneously, with gentle pumping over for 5 weeks. The wine is then pressed directly into both 225L French oak barrels and clay amphorae where it undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation over the course of a 4 month ageing period. The wine is naturally stabilised at the ambient temperature of the cold winter months, at temperatures as low as -15°C.

Bright ruby to dark purple in colour, it promises plenty of power. The nose is complex with powerful aromas of blackberry and blueberry with, rose, rosemary, violets and floral notes as well as a hint of spice. The palate is nicely concentrated and with fine tannins. The flavours of blueberry, plum and blackberry are big, with hints of bittersweet cocoa and a subtle stimulating flavour of mint and violet, dark cherry, blackberry, red plum, earth, espresso, tobacco, dark chocolate, black pepper, black tea, violet. Very complex.
