Bodegas Amaren Barrel Fermented Rioja Blanco 2021

Vibrant tropical and stone fruits with textural, unctuous oak influence and a hint of salinity on the finish - A great pairing for creamy fish dishes or ripe soft cheeses.

A blend of Viura, Malvasia and Tempranillo Blanco from vines with an average age of over 60 years from plots local to the winery, at around 545 m above sea level, planted on chalky soils with minimal organic content.

The fruit is harvested by hand then undergoes two rounds of sorting, first bunches then individual berries. The must is fermented predominantly in 225 and 500L French oak barrels, with a small proportion in concrete egg. The wine remains in these vessels to age on lees, with regular battonage, for 10 months prior to bottling.

Food Pairing
Grilled fish, seafood, white meats with light sauces, ripe brie.

Official Tasting Notes
Pleasant chalky notes on the nose that showcase the clay-calcareous terroir along with additional complexity thanks to the wood fermetation. Tremendously fresh thanks to the acidity that the combination of the diffrent white varieties provide. This continues on the palate with stone fruit with citrus notes and tropical flavours accompanied with an enjoyable enveloping unctuous mouthfeel that shows the labour- intensive stirring of the lees. Very long finish with saline hints that perfectly match the chalky-clay soils of the Leza.
