Amaren originated in 1995 as the critically acclaimed premium range from Luis Cañas. Bodegas Amaren was later founded as a winery in its own right, one devoted to the pursuit of perfection in every facet of winemaking. Today, Amaren is headed by Luis Cañas' grandson, Jon Cañas who has continued his grandfather's work.

This wine is made from Malvasia Riojana, one of the many sub-varieties of Malvasia found in Southern Europe. Malvasia Riojana is distinguished by the pinkish hue developed by skins when ripe. The fruit was picked by hand from the century old El Pomal vineyard in the village of Leza in Rioja Alavesa, and painstakingly sorted in the winery. Only individual berries of the highest quality are selected for pressing. The must is fermented in a 1700 litre concrete egg, then aged on fine lees in this same vessel for 14 months with weekly batonnage prior to bottling. The finished wine is cellared at the winery for 2 years before release.

Official Tasting Notes
This is a wine of great aromatic complexity. On the nose there is an abundance of ripe fruit such as pineapple and pears as well as delicate floral aromas sof orange blossom, dried flower petals, nutmeg, and brioche. Very complex. The ageing on its fine lees and bâtonnage ensures a rich and full flavour, dense full bodied and long.
