The family of Luis Cañas have been growing vines in the heart of Rioja Alavesa for four generations. The vineyards are mostly on slopes and terraces, with the land calcareous clay, resulting in low quantity but high-quality crops. The philosophy of the growers is to care for the environment and keep all steps of the wine-making natural, and continue this for the next generation. The Reserva Selección de la familia is 85% tempranillo with the remaining 15% cabernet sauvignon. It was aged for 20 months in oak casks, a combination of both French and American and was bottled in January 2020.
Food PairingBest served with pasta dishes, roasted lamb and beef, stews and poultry.
Staff Tasting Notes The nose is aromatic and oaky with black fruits. In the glass, the flavour is a journey from rich spices to herbal liquorice and earthy notes. It is intensely juicy, while being fairly tannic. A wine that leaves you wanting to savour it to for a long time.
