Silky by name and silky by nature, this excellent value bobal is rich, indulgent and fruity with complex and varied notes of dark berries, plums and cherry enveloped in a warming embrace of vanilla spice and exceptionally smooth tannins - A perfect wine to accompany cured meats and cold cuts on a chilly winter's evening.

Bodegas Murviedro is part of the Switzerland-based Schenk Wine empire, which operates numerous highly-regarded wineries in Spain, France, Italy and Switzerland. Murviedro is very much the jewel in the crown of their Spanish operations and focusses, like many Schenk wineries, on varieties native to their vineyard sites. The winery is based in DOP Utiel-Requena, near Valencia, a region best known for Bobal which consitutes 80% of vines in the region.

Sericis (from the Latin for 'Silky') is made from 100% Bobal from low-yielding old vines planted in the chalky-clay soils of DOP Utiel-Requena. This region is one of the less hospitable in Spain, prone to droughts in Summer, hail in winter and a large diurnal range. These factors combine with the age of these vines to produce fruit with highly concentrated flavours.

Once harvested, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed before a long maceration and fermentation on skins at a controlled temperature and with pumping-over throughout. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation before 8 months of ageing in French oak casks.
