Behind Dominio de Queiron, Gabriel Perez, is the winemaker who secretly began the project with a mindset dedicated to a life of winemaking. They are respectful of Rioja winemaking history and devoted to tradition: in constant search of respect of pure winemaking techniques.

El Arca, a very small-scale, old Garnacha vineyard, 0.89ha to be precise, dates back to 1892, from a challenging land with low-poor soil nutrients, challenging environment for old vine which also needs to withstands the Cierzo wind (challenging strong wind but also providing healthy growing conditions in the vineyard). The vineyard is planted on a soil composition of sandy loam and a tiny proportion of clay (roughly 30% loam, 60% sand & 10% clay) but essential for survival. This is kind of soil making great wines.

The wine is made following the main traditional, ancestral way of winemaking from Quel village, the grapes are handled carefully in every step, following a gravity patch of over four levels within the winery itself...like in the past, in the traditional caves in the hill of La Corona and maintaining the same philosophy, same approach, unnecessarily manipulation, pumping, being hands-off from the reception of the grapes, taking care of the must & then juice.

Staff Tasting Notes
This is a wine full of flavour: deep & intense. At 15.5% ABV, it is big, but superbly balanced. Needs to be served in carafe after being open for 30min, it shows a full spectrum of dark red fruits, liquorice, balsamic and garrigue herbs, but the elegance is also taking place, developing floral notes and the oak spices are complementing the structure of the palate, superb, rich and opulent wine. A very limited cuvee, less than 2000 bottles are made, it will age also beautifully.
