Borsao Borgia Macabeo 2023

A straightforward and affordable wine, but a brilliant one. Ripe citrus, bright blossomy florality leading to a crisp, dry finish.

Bodegas Borsao was established as a winemakers co-operative in 1959, but only grew to it's current enormous scale in 2001, when it and two other co-operatives merged. Now, Borsao makes wine from grapes sourced from over 375 growers and their 2400 hectares of vines in Campo de Borja DOP in Aragon.

The majority of these vineyards are situated in the foothills of the Monyaco mountain, between 350 and 800m above sea level. In this hot and arid area, the vines are cooled by the southerly Cierzo winds, allowing the grapes to ripen more slowly, acheiving a greater concentration of flavour.

This wine is made from 100% Macabeo sourced from across the region. The grapes are crushed and briefly macerated at a cold temperature before pressing. The juice undergoes a long, slow fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 22-26°C, maximising fruit character and preserving freshness.
