Ca N'Estruc Blanc 2022

Fresh, textured and masterfully structured, with gentle florality, lemon and grapefruit peel on the nose, underpinned by stonefruit and melon. Rounded on and soft on the palate with a weight characteristic of the old vines and notes of orange blossom, lemon and nectarine. A quenching mineral bitterness and moreish acidity round things out beautifully. An absolute bargain.

Ca N'estruc, "House of the Estruch" is a historical agricultural estate in Catalonia, and home to the Estruch family and their descendants. Dating back to 1574, the estate has been home to cereal farms, orchards, livestock and, consistently, grape vines.

Though the Estruch family had been making wine on the Estruch estate for hundreds of years, it was not until 1980 that the current head of the family, Francisco Marti Badia, began the process of professionalising Ca N'Estruc's viticulture.

This wine is a predominantly estate-grown blend of 70% Xarel-lo, 15% Muscat, 10% Macabeu and 5% Garnatxa Blanca (AKA Garnacha Blanco/Grenache Blanc). The vines, aged between 30 and 50 years, sit in gravelly alluvial soils at 165 m above sea level, in a site sheltered from wind by the Montserrat range.

The fruit is harvested by hand, destemmed and gently pressed. The must is rested at 15 °C for 24 hours to clarify and stabilise, before racking to stainless steel tanks and fermenting with indigenous yeasts from the vineyard, for around two weeks. The wine is bottled without further ageing to preserve freshness.

Official Tasting Notes
It has a beautiful and bright straw-yellow colour. The nose it is fragrant and charming, with notes of sweet white flowers such as acacia, followed by exotic fruits such as lychee and passion fruit and a delicate and refreshing citrus hint. In the mouth it is expressive and friendly, with a good balance between sweet notes and freshness, with final hints of stone fruit such as water peach and light aniseed notes.
