Ca N'Estruc Idoia Negre 2018

Ca N'estruc, "House of the Estruch" is a historical agricultural estate in Catalonia, and home to the Estruch family and their descendants. Dating back to 1574, the estate has been home to cereal farms, orchards, livestock and, consistently, grape vines.

Though the Estruch family had been making wine on the Estruch estate for hundreds of years, it was not until 1980 that the current head of the family, Francisco Marti Badia, began the process of professionalising Ca N'Estruc's viticulture.

This wine is a blend of 75% Garnatxa Negra (i.e. Garnacha/Grenache) and 25% Samsó (Carinyena/Carignan) which was predomanintly estate grown. The vines range from 15-50 years old and sit in alluvial soils at 165 m above sea level. The fruit was harvested by hand and fully destemmed before pressing into stainless steel vessels for 10-15 days of maceration and fermentation with daily pumping over. The wine was then aged for 12 months in old Allier French oak barrels before assemblage and bottling.

Official Tasting Notes
It has an attractive and bright ruby colour with beautiful garnet hues. On the nose it is very suggestive and fragrant, with evocative and intense aromas of red fruits, vanilla and clove. On the palate it is very pleasant and has a soft and mouth-filling texture with well-balanced tannins due to its refreshing acidity. It is agile and direct, with final flavours reminiscent of freshly picked cherries and sweet spices. An elegant and seductive wine with a long finish leaving a very pleasant sensation in the mouth.
