A delightful release from our sister shop, Royal Mile Whiskies.  This is a single cask from Islay distillery, Caol Ila, and we found it to be a stellar example of their distillery character.  Presented at cask strength to accentuate Caol Ila's signature sweet smoke, it has been bottled without added colour or chill-filtration. It received a hearty thumbs-up from our staff at a recent tasting. 

Staff Tasting Notes

Nose – Heady and fragrant with a touch of Iodine, rather than the more standard coastal or briny feel on the nose. It's not a strong nose, more subtle and an oddly comforting farminess, perhaps even a hint of yellow and white flowers.

Palate – Instant sweet and relatively clean smoke that intergrated well. Honeyed with a slight zesty tang and a prevailing bittersweetness. After adding a few drops of water, barley sugar displays rather than honey. Ashy smoke comes forward with more salinity than before. There is a beautiful balance of sweetness to bitterness and acidity.

Finish – Strong, sweet and smoky.
