Champagne Deutz Brut Classic NV

Deutz sits at an elegant mid-point on the scale between the autolytic and aperitif styles. Blossomy florality on the nose is followed up by a bready marzipan fullness and ripe orchard fruit on the palate - A delightful pairing for smoked salmon or crab pâté.

One of the original Grandes Marques, Champagne Deutz was established in 1838 in Aÿ, where the winery remains to this day. Deutz sources its grapes from vineyards in Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs and Vallée de la Marne. Of these vineyards, over 80% bear Premier or Grand Cru designation and 42 hectares are owned by Deutz themselves.

Overall, the assemblage consists of 38% Pinot Noir, 32% Pinot Meunier and 30% Chardonnay, and each parcel of each variety is vinified separately. The grapes are pressed gently using Coquard presses, and only the free-run and first press juices are used. The juice undergoes alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, and the resulting vins clairs are blended with between 25% and 40% reserve wines and bottled. The wine ages in bottle on lees for for 3 years before disgorgement, is topped up with a dosage of 9g/L, and is then cellared for a further 6 years post-disgorgement before release.
