Most growers in Champagne sell their grapes to large houses; the Grand Marques, often via their local growers co-operative. Pierre Péters, based in Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger, Côte des Blancs, were one of the original grower-producers in Champagne, and started selling their own wines in 1919. The house produces exclusively Blanc des Blancs, primarily from Chardonnay grown locally in the Côte des Blancs, but also from select villages further afield.

This cuvée is composed of Chardonnay from Pierre Péters' Grand Cru vineyards, each selected for their specific soil types and the influence this has on the wines. Broadly, these vineyards sit on a mixture of limestone soils and 'Silex' (clay-flint) soils.

The fruit is hand-harvested, then pressed as gently as possible in a pneumatic press, such that the skins and flesh act to naturally filter solid particles from the must. The must is fermented in stainless steel tanks, where it then remains on lees for some time. This base wine is blended 80:20 with the house's special "perpetual reserve" wines - primarily wines from the 1988, 1990, 1993 and 1996 vintages, which have been held in a combination of foudres, concrete and cement vats, and stainless steel tanks. The blended wine is tiraged with a dosage of 2 g/L, then aged in bottle on lees for at least 3 years before disgorgement.

Official Tasting Notes
The Cuvée de Réserve is pale gold in colour with a fine mousse and vivacious bubbles. The nose is powerful, displaying saline and flint aromas at first, followed by white fruits. The palate has great energy and an elegant texture, with vibrant notes of hazelnuts and fresh almonds.
