Fleshy and generous with a dry, elegant structure. Notes of fresh stonefruits and caramelised pineapple, with a more austere mineral backbone - a rare taste of history. 

This cuvée, created by Chef de Cave, Cyril Brun, represents the rebirth of a project initially undertaken by Brun's predecessor, Daniel Thibault. This project was an homage to the legendary Charles-Camille Heidsieck, founder of the Champagne house that bears his name, dubbed 'Champagne Charlie' on his many trips to the USA in the 1850s, where he beguiled a new market.

Thibault produced five historic cuvées of Champagne Charlie between 1979 and 1985. In 2016, Brun took up the mantle and produced the first new cuvée in over 30 years to commemorate 200 years since Charles-Camille's birth. This wine is the result.

This cuvée of Champage Charlie has a Pinot Noir base wine from the 2016 vintage from Aÿ Grand Cru (20%) blended with a selection of mature reserve wines (80%). Overall, this assemblage consists of 48% Pinot Noir and 52% Chardonnay. As the name suggests, this blend was Tiraged and cellared in 2017, then disgorged in November 2021 for later release.

Official Tasting Notes
To the eye: Dazzling, luminous golden robe. On the nose: Notes of grapefruit, roasted pineapple enlivened with the vivacity of toasted and mineral notes. After several seconds, aromas of fresh fruits (apricots, vineyard peaches) briefly apppear to give way to persistent notes of pastry. On the palate: The texture is truly the soul of Charlie, where we find that paradox of juvenile freshness and fleshiness, with a silkiness befitting of a more mature wine. This 'dry fleshiness' is enhanced with a highly nuanched effervescence, composed of extremely harmonious bubbles. The finish reveals candied citrus and exotic passionfruit notes.
