A particularly fine vintage from this historic fourth-growth cru classé. Rich, dark berries and graphite minerality - a versitile pairing for game and beef.

A wonderful vintage from a classic Saint-Julien estate where the quality has increased measurably in recent vintages under the ownership of Patrick Maroteaux, with winemaking overseen by Jean-Dominique Videau.

This is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc from vines which are maintained at the age of 35 years. Each plot of each variety is fermented seperately in one of 28 tanks before ageing in French oak barrels (60-65% of it new) for 16-20 months.

This method of vinification is part of what the Maroteaux family calls the '3F strategy', which focusses on Finesse, Fruit and Freshness.

The wine shows a deep colour, the nose of ripe fruits is both complex and expressive, combining richness and precision with an underlying freshness. The palate is beautifully balanced, the attack is voluptuous and shows a high concentration of extremely fine tannins. Excellent aromatic persistence. The vintage combines exceptional density with remarkable finesse. It is evident that the 2016 will join the ranks of this estates finest vintages.
