Chateau Tirecul La Graviere Les Pins Monbazillac 2021

A stunningly good value dessert wine notes of rich yellow peach, apricot, candied orange, summer flowers and a lovely sharp acidity to the finish that keeps everything fresh - this is a well-balanced dessert in itself but it also pairs beautifully with crème brûlée or fruit tarts.

A blend of Sémillon and Muscadelle from Ch. Tirecul's younger vines, averaging 15 years old. These are planted in calcareous, clay-siliceous and clay-limestone soils on a Northeast-facing slope which allows good drainage.

This wine is made exclusively from grapes which have been affected by Botrytis cinera - Noble Rot. Rather than harvesting whole bunches, the grapes are picked individually, in multiple vineyard passes, only when they have been fully dehydrated and concetrated by Botrytis. The fruit is gently pressed, and the must clarified by gravity sedimentation at a low temperature. The clarified juice is fermented in barrel, slowly over the course of 2 months, before 8 months of aging in a combination of french oak barrels (with battonage) and vats. The aged wine is fined and filtered, but not chemically stabilised before bottling.

Sweet on the nose there is the richness of yellow peach and candied orange peel with lots of excitement coming from the hint of botrytis. Although the palate starts lush and ripe fruity there is mid freshness some citrus bringing out summer flower fragrances. The lighter fresh feel gives way to ripe apricot candied peel giving fleshy richness on the finish.
