Chateau Tirecul La Graviere Monbazillac 2020

A classic cuvée from one of the finest producers in Monbazillac, which stands toe-to-toe with the flashier dessert wines of Sauternes, while costing a fraction of the price. Rich yet elegant, with candied fruit, spiced marmalade and a fresh florality.

A blend of Sémillon and Muscadelle from 40 year old vines in a single 9 Ha vineyard block in Monbazillac. This block is on a North-East facing slope, providing good drainage to its Calcareous, clay-siliceous and clay-limestone soils. This cuvée is produced exclusively from grapes that have been affected by Botrysis cinera - Noble Rot - which causes pores to form in the skin of the grapes, resulting in the loss of water and more concentrated, raisin-like fruit.

The harvest takes place over several passes, and on each pass, only the berries which have been fully botrytised are picked. The grapes are gently pressed and the must is claified by gravity sedimentation at a low temperature. The clarified juice is fermented in French oak barrels for between 1 and 5 months before aging in French oak barrels for over 30 months with battonage. The aged wine is fined and filtered, but not chemically stabilised before bottling.
