Americano Rosa 75cl

Though the two can often be used interchangably in cocktails or as an aperitif, the main difference between Vermouth and Americano is the principal bittering agent: Vermouth is bittered primarily with Wormwood, whereas Americano is bittered primarily with Gentain (and similarly Quinqina, AKA Quina or Kina, is bittered with Cinchona bark). The name is derived from the late 19th Century American fashion of drinking vermouth with soda, as with the cocktail of the same name, and aperitifs created to chase this trend used Gentian, likely for it's livelier aromatic qualities which are amplified with the addition of a sparkling mixer.
