CoPa Torontel 2021

Aromatic, expressive and textured, with notes of blossom and honey on the nose, followed by ripe orchard fruits on the rounded and unctuous palate - A delicious and versatile pairing for anything from Thai curries to roast chicken. 

CoPa, established in 2018, is the passion project of Rodrigo Concha and Sebastián Paganelli and is based in the Itata Valley in southern Chile. The duo work with small, inhospitable vineyards - from 0.5 Ha - planted with old vines, some aged over 100 years.

This Torontel (a naturally occuring hybrid of Muscat and Pais) was, by necessity, hand harvested from a 0.5 Ha vineyard on a steep 45° slope in Magdalena Alto. This slope forms part of the Itata Valley's coastal range and is situated about 28 km inland from the Pacific Ocean.

The grapes were whole-bunch pressed into a stainless steel tank. After two days of settling, the partially clarified must was racked into another tank for a long, slow fermentation and ageing on fine lees over the course of 12 months. Once bottled, the wine was cellared for 5 months prior to release.

Official Tasting Notes
Pale golden colour. Expressive aromas of white fruit such as pears, apple, custard apple and melon, with floral tones that evolve into dry herbs. In the mouth it has structure, it is elegant with flavours of pear and hearbs with citrus notes, it has a medium acidity that gives it freshness and a long finish.
