Concentrated yet nuanced, with savoury and herbaceous notes up front, followed by a building, slightly perfumed red cherry note, all framed by structural tannins and a soft round mouthfeel - A beautiful pairing for pretty much any lamb dish.

Dougos winery was founded in 1991 by siblings Louiza (oenologist) and Thanos (viticulturalist) Dougos and sits in the Tempi Valley, on the foothills of Mount Olympus. The Dougos family were early pioneers in the readoption of indigenous grape varieties and are currently the custodians of one of Greece's oldest vine nurseries, founded in 1956.

This wine is a blend of Xinomavro, Krasato and Stavroto, in proportions which vary from vintage to vintage, from vines planted in 1952 in iron-rich schist soils over a sandy clay subsoil. The vineyards are situated at ca. 500m above sea level in Rapsani PDO in the region of Thessaly, where they are cooled by both mountainous and mediterranean winds.

The grapes are harvested by hand and macerated with around 20% as whole bunches. At the end of fermentation, the wine is pressed into lightly toasted 300 litre French oak casks, where it ages on lees for 18 months prior to bottling. The finished wine is cellared for one year before release.

Official Tasting Notes
The Rapsani Old Vines shows a lifted and elegant bouquet of macerated strawberries and hedgerow fruits with undertones of sundried tomato, chestnut, reglisse and just a hint of meatiness. A wonderfully harmonious wine with fully-integrated and very subtle oak, bright acidity and a great structure. There is a savoury core to this wine and firm yet very fine tannins. Long and rewarding. A classic style of Xinomavro-based wine but without the harsh tannic structure of yesteryear. Comparable to a good Barbaresco.
