Arguably Floret Rouve’s top Macconais site, and the source of his most elegant Burgundy Chardonnay, the stony soils at the top of the slope of ‘Les Vercherres’ produce wines of sublime fruit character – less bold and robust than his Pouilly-Fuisse, but with astonishingly delicate complexity, freshness, and tension. The 2017 is ripe, mineral and lively, with great crispness and intensity.
Florent Rouve
Florent farms vines on both sides of the River Saône, with around 4ha and a winery close to Pouilly-Fuissé in the Macconais, and another 5.5ha in Jura, with a winery in the village of Villette-lès-Arbois. He employs the same minimal-intervention approach to winemaking on either side of the valley: the wines from Jura are ‘topped-up’, not oxidatively aged, and he employs low yields, manual harvesting, fermentation with native yeasts, and nine to fifteen months ageing in small format oak in order maximise expression of the individual character of the fruit from each site.
