Krohn LBV 2017

Bold, bright and vibrant, with spiced bramble, dark plum and an elegant balance of acidity and tannin - A classic pairing for blue stilton.

Founded in 1865 by Theodor Weise and Dankort Krohn, Krohn has an established reputation for quality and their wines represent extraordinarily good value. For all of their ports, Krohn uses only grapes from A-grade vineyards around the Douro valley which are taken to their Quinta do Retiro Novo estate in Sarzedinho for vinification.

In Porto, not every vintage is considered to be of a high enough quality for the production of vintage port. In these 'non-vintage' years, port producers can choose to age their wines in oak, smoothing out the rougher tannins and harsher acidity. The result is a Late Bottled Vintage, and these ports tend to be some of the best value offerings from the region.

This ruby port is made from a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca, all from the 2017 vintage. Towards the end of fermentation, the wine is fortified to preserve some sweetness. This fortified wine is then aged in barrel for 4 to 6 years before bottling without fining or filtering.

Official Tasting Notes
Deep ruby colour with spicy black fruit aromas. The palate has vibrant plum and blackberry characters layered with more spice, fresh acidity and firm tannins. A full and rich style with impressive length.
