Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2021

Crisp, fresh and well balanced. This kiwi Sauvignon Blanc occupies the grassy and citrus part of the spectrum, with a bright, but not too sharp, acidity and a subtle silkiness to the mouthfeel - an absolutely sublime pairing for smoked salmon.

Kim and Erica Crawford founded Loveblock wines in 2008 following the sale of the winery and brand that bears Kim's name. By comparison to the large commercial scale of Kim Crawford wines, Loveblock is very much a passion project for the couple, who now grow fruit on two sites in Marlborough and Central Otago.

This wine is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the organically farmed Woolshed vineyard on Loveblock farm in Lower Dashwood, Marlborough. These 27 acreas of vines, planted in 2003, sit on the Awatere valley floor in alluvial silt loam soils over substone.

The fruit was harvested in the cool early morning, both by hand and machine, and vinified as seperate batches. The handpicked fruit was pressed and the juice settled before fermenting in a combination of concrete eggs, amphorae and neutral old French oak barrels. The portion fermented in oak was fermented spontaneously by wild yeast and subsequently underwent malolactic fermentation.

The machine harvested fruit was pressed directly into stainless steel tanks for fermentation, with 25% of this portion also undergoing malolactic fermentation. Of the finished wines, only the best batches were selected for the assemblage.
