Mount Edward Gamay Central Otago 2021

Bright and fresh with an undercurrent of savoury complexity. Ripe summer berries up front underpinned by an aromatic herbaceousness and an earthy note - Absolutely gorgeous served slightly chilled with lamb Barbacoa carnitas tacos.

100% Gamay Noir from biodynamically farmed vineyards planded in Central Otago's glacially derived schist soils. The cool climate of this region produces wines of exceptional elegance and precision - provided the vintage allows the grapes to ripen before the frosts set in.

The grapes were harvested and sorted by hand, and the must was fermented by wild yeasts indigenous to the vineyard and winery. 20% of the wine was aged for 5 months in old French oak casks, before blending with the rest of the batch. The assemblage is bottled without fining, filtration or the addition of sulfites.

Official Tasting Notes
Aromas of raspberry and blueberries with herbal savoury notes. On the palate it is a refreshing combination of crunchy refreshing acidity, bright fruit flavours with some darker ripe flavours with some undertones of savoury complexity. Light tannins hold this wine all together resulting in a wine that is both immediately appealing whilst being serious enough for the wine buffs out there. Easily one of the best New Zealand Gamays in any market.
