Niepoort MosCATel do Douro

Sweet and generous yet fresh and balanced, with vibrant notes of orange zest and blossom, tropical fruit and a hint of honey - a gorgeous pairing for citrus fruit desserts or honey roast ham.

A blend of Muscat de Alexandria and Muscat de Frontignan from old vines planted in the schist and granite soils of Favaios, just north of Pinhao in the Douro Valley. The fruit is harvested by hand and fermented as whole bunches in wide, shallow lagares.

The wine is then pressed, fortified with grape spirit, and aged in a combination of 550L old port pipes (90%) and new French oak barrels (10%). Prior to bottling, wines of different ages, aged in this fashion, are blended such that the average age in bottle is around 5 years old.

Official Tasting Notes
The Moscatel Niepoort 5 Anos is characterised by its unmistakable Muscat aromas, with floral and citrusy notes. Hints of nuts, spice and honey add further complexity. The palate is of quintessential Niepoort style: excellent structure, high acidity and a long finish which emphasises its delicate and refreshing character. This wine is reminiscent of an Auslese-style wine and is ideal as an end to a beautiful dinner after various wines and Ports have been enjoyed. It will give you renewed energy so that you can start all over again!
