Osborne Amontillado VORS 51-1a

A divine balance of richness and freshness, with notes of fresh hazel and Brasil nut, creamy mocha, curacao orange, medjool dates and a crisp bitter finish - Very versatile for pairing with cured meats, mature cheeses and game.

This sherry was drawn from a solera established in 1902, consisting of 52 butts divided into 4 criaderas, to which the name 51-1a is referring. Palamino Fino is vinified and fermented to dryness, then aged in the solera biologically, under a layer of flor yeast for the first 6 to 8 years. This wine is then fortified to break down the flor, and the wine continues to age oxidatively for the rest of its time in the solera with regular fractional blending. By definition, as a VORS sherry, this Amontillado must contain of wine aged in solera for 30 years however in this case, the oldest wines in this blend may well be as old as 50-60 years at time of bottling.

Official Tasting Notes

Appearance – topaz-amber colour of great brightness complemented by a wide yellowish-brown rim.

Nose – complex aromas of fine oak and nuts like hazelnut, very evolved due to its long ageing.

Palate – This great wine leaves its final impressions on the palate. Powerful and very well-structured it shows a great deal of flavour and a slight bitterness, which makes it very elegant.
