Osborne Capuchino Palo Cortado VORS

Very rich and concentrated, with roasted nuts, leather, treacle and a deep, slightly sour umami character - Possibly Osborne's oldest wine, and a real taste of history.

This Palo Cortado was drawn from a solera consisting of 5 criaderas established in 1790 and originally operated by the long since dissolved bodega, Agustin Blazquez. The name Capuchino refers to the Capuchin order of monks that established a convent in Jerez de la Frontera in the mid 1600s.

Palamino Fino is vinified and femented to dryness, then aged in solera under flor for 8-14 years with regular fractional blending. It then undergoes a longer period of oxidative aging, in the absence of oxygen scavenging flor, before bottling. The VORS designation requires that the the oldest wine in this blend be at least 30 years old, however, given the age of Osborne's historic soleras, the oldest wine in this bottle is almost certainly much older.

Official Tasting Notes

Appearance – a bright mahogany colour.

Nose – It exudes aromas of hazelnut, with touches of oak. It has the vinosity and weight of an oloroso and the delicate, savoury aromas of an amontillado.

Palate – dry, well-balanced, elegant and very long-lasting.
