The Donaldson Family have been seriously involved in viticulture and winemaking for over 40 years. Founder Ivan Donaldson planted the first Canterbury vineyard in 1976 and went on to establish Pegasus Bay in 1986 with his wife Christine. It is a true family business with all four of their sons now involved.
Staff Tasting Notes From a vineyard located on the Glasnevin Gravels in Waipara valley of North Canterbury. This free-draining gravel is the result of milennia of stones, silt, and loam being washed down from the mountains. All this combined with soil of low fertility, creates vines that produce lower yields of excellent quality fruit. Given its age, this is definitely a wine worth decanting. Bright ruby in colour, on the nose theres a wealth of dark cherry, boysenberry and poached plums, together with a touch of spice and dried flowers. The palate is classically structured, with a plush texture and rich mouthfeel. Velvety tannins work perfectly with well-balanced acidity, setting up a long and persistent finish.
