Pieropan Calvarino 5

The Calvarino vineyard is located in the north-west zone of the Soave Classico area and has been owned by the Pieropan family since 1901. . It takes its name, 'little Calvary', from the steepness of the slope and the difficulty this presents in working the vineyard. It has basalt and volcanic soil that is typical in this part of Soave and is planted with Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave. The vines are between 30 and 60 years old and are planted 200 to 300 m asl.

Calvarino 5 is a limited-edition wine made at the new, state-of-the-art winery built in honour of Leonildo Pieropan. Calvarino 5 is a unique blend of five vintages, with an average of ten years cellaring in cement tanks. Nestled in the Soave hills, the winery has a sinuous, gravity-fed cellar and uses an innovative method of collecting rainwater. Winemaker Dario Pieropan brought the 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 vintages together to create an expertly-balanced and elegant blend.

 It displays aromatic herbs and summer flowers. Elegant, long and persistent. Rich in mineral and tropical notes, on the palate it displays a verticality, which gives the wine an intriguing complexity. A Mediterranean wine in the soul and of great longevity.
