Tabalí Pedregoso Viognier Gran Reserva 2022

Richly aromatic, mineral and sharp, with notes of orchard fruit, lemon and orange zest, and a slightly honeyed florality - a gorgeous pairing for Sri-Lankan seafood dishes.

Viña Tabalí produces elegant, terroir-focussed wines on an impressively grand scale. Their vineyards spread from the pacific coast, to 1600m above sea level on the steep slopes of the Andes Mountains, all in the pursuit of unique soils and microclimates in which to grow grapes of exceptional quality. The fruit is vinified at their winery in Limari, on the edge of the Atacama desert.

This wine is 100% Viognier from the Espinal vineyard, and the old vines of the Tabali estate vineyard, on the coastal side of the Limari Valley. In this arid plain, the clay-limestone soils retain just enough precious water, and the vineyards are cooled by the pacific breese, resulting in concentrated wines with a distinctive minerality.

The grapes were pressed directly into fermentation vessels, without prior crushing, to retain acidity. After 12 hours of settling at a low temperature, the juice was innoculated with selected yeasts and fermented at below 18°C. The wine was stabilised in stainless steel tanks for a time before bottling.

Official Tasting Notes
This subtle, aromatic Viognier is a clean, yellow colour. The nose reveals upfront aromas of citrus fruit, chirimoya and hints of raisins, with floral notes in the background. In the mouth, delicate hints of apricots, pears and citrus fruit combine with smooth acidity to provide an elegant and balanced wine with great persistence.
