The Story of Criolla: Argentine Wines with Laurie Webster - Wednesday 24th April

When you think of Argentine wine, you would be forgiven for immediately thinking of Malbec. However, nestled among the western slopes of the Andes in Argentinian wine country can be found a plethora of hardy indigenous varieties born long ago out of that rugged landscape. These are the Criollas.

This family of varieties encapsulates the diversity and complexity of South American wine like no other. From aromatic whites like Torrontés (and Torrontel), juicy and complex Criolla Grande or Criolla Chica, or blush-skinned Moscatel Rosado, Argentina boasts an enormous range of delicious varieties, dating back to common parents in the 1500s.

For this tasting we’ll be joined by Laurie Webster MD from Ucopia Wines, who will tell us the story of Criolla and guide us as we taste it’s many forms. We’ve also thrown a Malbec in there for good measure. How could we not!?
