Thistledown Gorgeous Old Vine Shiraz 2022

Rich and fruity, with a nose of freshly picked ripe strawberries, peaches and nectarines. The palate holds lots of red fruits, wild raspberries and a hint of black pepper. The Zibibbo adds a beautiful lightness to the concentration of the Shiraz and adds a complex perfumed note to the wine - A perfect pairing for an Aussie barbeque or, given the Scottish weather, a nice steak.

Thistledown Wine Company, run by two masters of wine, Giles Cooke & Fergal Tynan, was set up to produce more elegant expressions of Grenache and Syrah. Drawing upon years of experience with both old and new world winemaking styles, Thistledown have managed to combine these two distinct ideologies into a winery which produces excellently balanced wines whilst still retaining their Australian character.

This particular cuvée (and yes it’s actually a cuvee with a small proportion of Zibibbo, AKA Moscato/Muscat) comes from old shiraz vines in the Riverland, a winemaking area just to the east of the Barossa Valley. Following harvest, the shiraz was then co-fermented with 14% Zibibbo using native yeasts. Before spending a short period of time in old French oak.
