Vega Sicilia Unico Ribera del Duero 2011

Unico 2011 is a blend of 95% Tempranillo (AKA Tinto Fino) and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon harvested from 210 Ha of Vega Sicilia's finest vineyards along the Ribera del Duero. These vineyards sit on stony limestone soils over sandy quartz gravel, at 700-900 m above sea level, and have an average age of 35 years.

The fruit was harvested by hand in mid-late September. After rigourous selection, the grapes were pressed and the must fermented by native yeast in wooden vessels, with full malolactic fermentation. The wine was then aged in a combination of 225 L barrels and 20,000 L vats, made from new and old French and American oak, until bottling in June 2017. The bottled wine was cellared further until it's general release in early 2021.

2011 is a concentrated vintage yet, elegant, silky, precise and deep. Unico is an expression that can be savoured immediately, although over time it will become truly incredible. It is, without a shadow of doubt, a true delight.
